I designed the layout in photoshop, i imported the file into fireworks sliced it up and exported the slices. When I open the HTML file, it seems that I have a white border (or what color the background is) on the top and sides of the images exported from dreamweaver thus leaving a border around my entire page and not aligning the table with the top of the page.

this is because you havent specified the margins on page properties. leaving them blank makes dreamweaver think that there should be a margin, and inputs 1 as default. to specify no margins at all you must put 0 in all the boxes. to fix this just go to the menu Modify and choose Page properties.
