Hi I'm new to web design, I want to put a short song on my web site with a control "on" and "off" for visitors.

Which format of music is best to do this? This would be a 30 second clip, thanks!

And yes I know background music can be annoying but this is something I'd like to add

use the mp3 format and a suitable flash player. There are many options for this, search in Google.

Give people the option to PLAY, rather than just turn off.

i think the kind of music is up to the theme of your website.
there is no need to set choice for customer, because it is your website.

Background music is generally gentle cheerful music.

you don't think the site should take the customer into consideration?!

I agree choose website to suit ideal target visitor

I have a job today and they insist in having this background music that sounds like a bird farting.
I have searched google and their is crap out there, I think it is better to just go with a simple one which is easy to find in google.
Thinking about making my own but I won't want to waste my time getting a bird to fart.

Don't forget that you need to check that you have the rights to use music on the web

Mp3 format will be the best from my point of view,why not give a option in your control so that people will choose for the type of format what they wish too..Or using flash player in your site ..will interact user in a better way..
