I wasn't sure where to put this topic, but since these addons are Web Development Tools, I thought I'd add them here.

Anyway - every year I clean up and organize the files on my computer, figure out what to keep/backup/throw away, and then I wipe my hard drive. I then reinstall all the programs that I've been using for the last month or so. Everything else I haven't used in the past year is left off my computer until I decide to put it back on. This is part of my routine yearly maintenance but it secretly makes me feel like I get a new computer every year :P

Other than finding out the hosts file trick no longer works and limewire is now illegal (shucks) my biggest disappointment would be that for whatever reason, my Super Awesome Web Development Add-Ons aren't working.

Firefox (3.6.12) is my browser of choice. I have a few other Add-Ons (All-In-One-Sidebar, Personas, Morning Coffee, etc) that work fine.

According to my Add-Ons list, Firebug (1.5.4), Greasemonkey (0.8.20100408.6) and Web Developer (1.1.8) are all installed properly.

I can access the Options Menu for Greasemonkey and Web Developer, but not Firebug. I disabled Web Developer to see if that was the problem (because I only had Firebug installed before the wipe, and I thought maybe if you have one, you can't have the other) but that wasn't it. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it - that didn't work.

Anyone else having issues with these specific add-ons for Firefox? Before the wipe, I had Firebug with no complaints. I had Greasemonkey a year or so ago and only recently decided to put it back on. I've never had Web Developer as an Add-On. I only recently installed it to check it out after the wipe

Edit - I should mention the problem is that the Greasemonkey and Firebug icons that SHOULD appear in the bottom right corner are not there. I believe Web Developer has it's own bar at the top and bottom of the browser, but I'm unable to get it to show up using Options or right clicking the browser window

In would suggest you ask your questions about Firefox in the Mozillazine forums, that's what they are there for.

However, Web Developer and Firebug work fine together, I use them both.

I believe she was referring to this forum:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/

For questions about a specific piece of software it is usually best to go straight to the source.

I'll have to bite my tongue on replying with something just as rude... drats
So, instead, I'll say the same thing I tell everyone who does what you just did:
There are things you know that I don't, and there are things I know that you don't. Can't we all just have cupcakes and get along?
Regardless, I did look for an answer before coming here.

But I appreciate the reply nevertheless, since "Web Developer and Firebug work fine together" does in fact rule out the theory that having both add-ons was a potential source of my problem. ^^

Prior to posting my question here, I went to the Mozilla website for some answers. I'm not familiar with their website since the only time I ever go there is to re-download Firefox or check out new themes

I searched through Support, I searched at Firebug's website, I googled for information and nada. I saw the word "mozillaZine" and assumed it was an e-mag, not a forum.

Anyway, thanks for the correction NullPointer. Perhaps I'll check out this e-magazine and see what else I can dig up.

and thanks to lynxus for the add-on

Either way - I still have an unanswered question, that I'm sure SOMEONE can help me with: anyone else had this problem?

I wasn't being rude, I was trying to point you to the better source for help with all things Mozilla. Their forum works pretty much like ours, you just have to find the right category.

That being said, my usual approach to troubleshooting Firefox extensions is to disable them all, then re-enable them one by one. This usually works. You might also have a corrupted profile, and there are different ways to resolve that issue which you can find in the Mozillazine forums.
