I was wondering if anyone could point me to a few good books on design, perhaps focusing on the web side of things but that discusses design theory rather than the technologies used.

I'm just about to order Art Theory for Web Design by Jennifer Golbeck because it's going cheap on Amazon but I don't know how good it is (and I usually like more than one book on a subject anyway) so I'm looking for more suggestions. Whether you've actually read them or just heard about them via reputation let me know.

EDIT: Uh, actually, after reading a review on amazon.com, I'm not bothering with the book I mentioned. Hopefully someone has a few good suggestions though.

There is no suggestion of books it is better to choose to search on google google gives best suggestion than books

Well I'm not expecting to search for websites with a book now am I. Of course that's probably not what you meant but if you mean to say that Google is better at teaching a subject than a good book you're obviously reading all the wrong books!

i recommended you w3c school website designing book. because it is a world best web designing tutorial.

But it's not quite what I was asking. I don't need books on the technologies involved (XHYML, CSS, JS, etc) but on the actual theory of design as it pertains to the web, or in general.

I've already found a few anyway:

Try to find other websites that you like and just think about how they were designed.

I personally have never bought a design book that was useful. But maybe that's just my luck?

Probably. There's a lot of junk out there. The above three come highly recommended, however.

My suggestion is that you dont have to go and search for books on web design while you have got lots of video and audio tutorials out here in the internet.

Visit youtube.com and search for web design tutorials.
