The forum on our Izzy site is supported by popups and i wondered if there are any out there that are free i am considering buying webspace for the forum but if there is a free one out there it would be easier..... and cheaper

No I don't know of any good free remotely hosted ones but if you are going to get webspace and a domain get phpBB. It rocks!!

http://phpbb.com/index.php

Oh and phpBB is free to download and use. *cheers*

I worked with ikonboard once. It was a nightmare and I won't do that again. Plus my host bans ikonboard scripts and for good reason.

I have recently added a forum to my site (which the board itself is on a site by itself and linked to my homepage). I am using the phpbb software on a free host ( www.tripod.com.uk ). there is info on the phpbb forums page on free and paid hosts that support the phpbb software.

I had a heck of a time trying to get the phpbb software functional, but I was able to locate someone willing to help me out.

I will have to dig the info up and post it ASAP.

Ikonboard and YABB are two major culprits, and many hosts disallow them (as do I). I've seen a bit of InvisionBoard from the inside out and I think it plays well in a shared hosting environment and installs easily. vBulletin is tops overall, but phpBB may be the best choice among the freebies. We've included it with our hosting plans for a while now.

I personally use and adore WoltLab's BurningBoard (http://woltlab.de). The skin for the most recent free version is awesome
Then, on my list, next would come InvisionBoard [this is all the free stuff, BTW, vBulletin rules all] and then Mercury Board, SowiBB and last (and, IMO, least) phpBB. Ick. [whoops, perhaps that's provocative...nah ]

*gasp*
And I say again...
*gasp*
Have you tried...but of course, you're a moderator. Have you tried the admin demo at vBulletin's website? Oooh I wish I had enough money to buy a licence...it's #1 of my "things to buy" list
There is a problem that InvisionBoard has that phpBB fixed: vis, that everyone uses the default IBF skin. Ugh. And I mean eeevverybody. At least phpBBers usually change the skin...
[btw, drachewyn, nice website]

IMO, vBulletin is the best. However, I've been using phpBB and it works very well.

On the bottom of my list is YABB.

I added a phpbb forum to my website www.aimaddict.com/forum . I dont really see a difference between the forum scripts. They are basically all the same with a few minor differences. Thats why i would prefer the free one.

The look on the ouside is more or less the same but, by having vBulletin you get a more powerful backend from what I have seen, also there are alot more options in vBulletin than in phpbb. Though for most people they don't need all the added features.

I just added a forum from everyone.net it's free and remotely hosted, with no banners or pop-ups. It's very customizable and easy to use

Take a look at mine: http://lifelineaquarium.community.ev...s/directory.pl
