Howdy, I'm new(ish) to web design, and in making sites for people I always wonder, should I put something at the bottom of the page saying that I designed it? I had one person specifically suggest that I add it, which was cool, but other than that I haven't (I've only done one other site so far). I ask because I'm doing a website for someone who I know that has a landscaping business. I definetly don't want to do it if it isn't commonplace, but I also don't want to screw myself out of something that could be possible good advertising. How do you handle this? Thanks!

Personally, I put a notice of 'design & coded by: xx', at all times, if the client chose the default way, so to say. It's pretty much a standard rule in my case. I offer the client to make a choice between two options. One, whereas I simply put the notice, or the second whereas the client will pay a bit more for a "branding free" version, without notice of any of my work.

Yeah, no doubt about it. Advertisement is very much necessary for yourself and make sure your client doesn't have any problems in giving you a link.

Yes I think it's a good practice. Obviously if the site itself is a brand, then the clients might not want that on their site. Clients react differently to the request, so approach the subject with each client differently.

I've found that the smaller the site, the more likely they are to let you put a link in.

They seem to accept is as common practice.....

I too place a link on the site I build (common practice and good advertising). If the client wishes to not have the link, then there is an additional charge (branding fee).
