I was planning on purchasing a .net domain because the .com was taken. This site will be an ecommerce site so I want to make sure this will not affect my SE rankings. Does anyone have an idea as to the significance of the .net domain?

I dont think it would affect.

There is less in a domain as there is in content. You could be using smackerooni.net to provide thousands of articles on whatever and if the equivalent .com is the same subject but has less content yours will do better.

my two cents: listen to winky.. hes right... if your a compeny you might get more respect with .com but .net wont hurt on SEs I dont think
