It's been a slow process but from what I've noticed, people are ignoring companies that build tailored made websites and such. Since CMS systems are getting so idiot proof and all these template sites are popping up, clients don't even bother with custom designs anymore.
We got places like all the envato marketplaces, buystockdesign, brandstack and those are really the only good, full fledged marketplaces out there. This niche hasn't even surfaced yet.
People are lazy and want stuff fast so what better place than an online walmart for web and graphic stuff to get it?
I have found a new part of this niche that solves a new problem and I'm looking for a partner in this. If anyone wants to know about it, just PM me and we can talk after an NDA has been signed.
Anyway, this finding has been sort of depressing, coupled with the fact that places like Freelancer.com, Guru.com and all the other job boards, bid sites and crowdsourcing sites have been pummeled by people who underbid, win projects and don't even finish them thus giving this industry a bad rep. People spamming the job boards, children acting on crowdsourcing sites and so on.
I think the design industry as a whole has recently been beaten to death and it can barely hold on. Even people like Upstack are trying to do something different to save the industry, I'm actually a designer on there and it's a pretty sweet program IMO as compared to something stupid like 99designs.
So back to my original topic. Does anyone else think the custom design world is being forced to shift to the world of idiot proof, CMS based templates like wordpress?
