I own my web design company @ removed , and someone was telling this:

(The person owned his own web design company) When he would put his mark at the bottom of a completed website i.e. 'Created by Company X' with a link an so forth, he would put a small 1x1 frame of his website, invisible to the eye. This way every time someone would go to the website he created for his client, his website would receive a unique hit.

Does this sound like BS or is it true? Morals aside, would it work?

I tested it but I dont know how to check the results since I would need multiple computers or a new ip address which is annoying.

What is the point of getting a false clickthru to your own site, one which does not actually involve anyone seeing your page, oh Jujitsu man? How can you gain from it in any way at all, ever, at all, in any way, however you look at it, in any light?

This is true. However, it is used mostly by companies trying to scam you. For example, they say "Get 10000 unique visitors for only $29.99!" Then they put the 1x1 frame up to trick your counters.

Yeah when I first read this I thought scam as well. That seems like the only logical explanation for trying to gather fake clickthrus.

Its an obvious scam that only think of fooling others their business won't last if they do those things...

there is no point to do this. if you get fake visitors to your website you still wont make any money whether your selling or making money with ppc programs.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! very pointless.
