Hey guys,

I really need your help! I am a web developer and working on a website I need to find a design for. Unfortunately, I am very proficient in development, but I lack significantly in creativity

I spent hours on end on sites like monstertemplates etc. but I can't seem to find what I want. I don't mind spending $100 on a template, as long as it fits what I want.

The site I am working on is a website that ranks cities in the US based on how fun they are (nightlife, parties, events, general atmosphere, concerts and so forth). So the design needs to be simple and clean and not too intense to the eye, but I would also like to include some aspects that represent the word "fun" like images and so forth.

The problem is that I don't even know which category to look under in all these template websites. I tried nightclubs, and they are all nice, but also too dark and depressing for someone to spend a good amount of time on.

Any inspiration would be much appreciated - thank you!

Hi Giaviv,

Here is a Link that might give you some ideas of the major cities with graphics.

New Orleans, a graphic with something to do with Mardi Gras. St. Louis, a graphic with the Arch, etc. One would have to research each city to find out what their attraction is and implement a graphic.

Perhaps you wanted to just have a few graphics to represent all the cities, I would go with graphics of museum's, aquariums, cities at night, zoos, sports, waterfront, etc.

Hi, Not sure if it is the case in America, but a lot of Australian bars, clubs and pubs have a daytime 'professional' photo(es) on their websites if that could help? I would hazard a guess that the same would apply in the states.

Devianart is a good place to garner some inspiration. A lot of "under" the radar designers have their material posted there and a lot of them are head and shoulders above what MonsterTemplates can give.

Have you already got the photo material for the site ? Because if so, you can arrange things in photoshop and try out how things come together!

Sounds like your going to have to list things on the page. have you talked with your client in depth about what he/she wants as far as the look and feel? Will it be Interactive? What kind of audience do they want to target?

This & possibly more should come into play when desiding what kind of layout you will be using.

If you have free reign on the design and need to find something to go by then if I were you I would google "websites that rank cities" (you can also ad "in the U.S." see if you find something close to what you had in mind and then contact the webmaster of that site to find out if there is a template for sale. Or ask them what search term to use in a template design site.

This is a tough one because I tried to just google template samples for ranking things and I couldn't come up with anything no matter how many different ways I asked the question - and I asked it at least 10 different ways....

How can you be a developer and lack creativity? Get a job more suited to your skills. Announce train times or something.

You made me curious so I googled some of that content of the original post. He/she has posted that exact post on half a dozen to a dozen forums...

http://flipforum.org/inspire-me/

is an example.

I'm intrigued about what's going on. I'm guessing that "monster templates" is what he was advertising in a deceptive way. There is a site with that name, a dot info site, and it now an apparently dead domain with nowt but google ads on it.

Is this what happened or have I got it wrong?
