hello,

newbie and non-coder here, i created this post to ask for the help of web designers and alike.

i have a classified ads website, it's based of smf forum and the classified ads section of it, is an add-on module.

i want to redesign the form for adding new classified ads listing. i need different sets of field for every sections or category of the classified ads.

such sections are:

want to buys
items for sale
properties
room-mate/flat-mate/house-mate finder

for instance, under ITEMS FOR SALE section, it already has the following field:

a. Item Condition - Option 1 = Brand New, Option 2 = Used
b. Region - Option 1 = Entire Country, Option 2 = Other Cities and etc.

im soliciting your suggestions and opinions on what other field shall i include, which are appropriate for every sections.

Use the custom form mod to post into a board that is set to reply only or read only.

You can create several forms each with their own database fields for different types of listings.

SMF makes it so hard to do these customizations without going out on a limb in my opinion. VBulletin and phpBB do it so much better in terms of having more availability for mods.

OP, have you considered switching to a different platform all together?

I don't see how it does. Themes are pretty simple to create or customise, there is a huge amount of mods and plugins that are simple to implement, even delving into the code is not a real problem as it is well documented and annotated. It is also FAR better than phpBB and vB for keeping out the spammers (IMO).

This is a custom form for Blog Templates and one for Directory Reviews Neither took more than a few minutes to build and test.

I've used SMF on a few projects in the past for clients, and use it for two current projects,
vbulletin can be a real resources hog and version 4 has more than a few "issues" and phpBB seems to have more holes than a tea bag.
