Hello All...............

I recently had my web site "stolen".........*&&%$$##!!!

I got some really good ideas on how to deal with it from readers of this forum for which I am most grateful!!

I know the WWW is by design "free for all" but I wonder if there is any way I protect any part of my web site from access/theft............ I have an ecommerce site and I can't get into any kind of restrictive membership, password requirements, etc.

I've heard there is a way you can protect certain items, such as images for example, so if someone tries to right click and "borrow it".........it just won't work.

Can anyone give me a suggestion or two as to what can be done and/or where I can go to find out how to implement it??

Very much appreciate any input!

I have a some excellent tools at my website:

1. an online html Source Code Encrytor - just paste your html in a box, press encrypt, test the result and paste the encrypted code back into your web page over the original code - note, save the original first as even you won't be able to get to the code once it has been encrypted!
2. a mouse button disabler - prevent anyone visiting your page from using the context menu of their mouse (normally right button) This will help to stop them stealing your content (text, graphics, and code)
3. download a free copy of WebSafe - the complete software package used by the profesionals to provide security for their website.

These are 100% FREE no bs

goto http://free.bobkan.net

I hope this helps!

There is no fully foolproof way to do it. Right Click Disabled is the worst. I hate it when sites have that disabled and I leave.

I like to be able to right click to open a link in a new window. If the site prevents me from doing that I leave.

If anyone can view your site they can steal it. There is nothing you can do.

There are even programs now that download your complete site pages into the .exe and can be passed around to anyone.

I hate those even worse than no right click. The only way to fully protect your site and content from not being downloaded etc. is to not publish it to the web at all.

That is harsh but it is reality. The only thing you can do is keep your eyes open for possible theft of your design and/or content.

Re Drachewyn's post - absolutely right - if someone is determined enough to steal from you there is little you can do - but consider this -

"I know car theives can easily steal my car, but I still lock it!"

There are career thieves and then there are those that are looking for an easy way to get content for their web site - If you want to protect your hard work then you are right to do what you can. Copyright laws etc are designed to protect those who can afford it - It's time the majority took a stand.

Regarding the right click to open a new window from a link - it is possible to just disable the right click on images (and provide a text link with it). All right you might loose some traffic, but if your content is good, a serious visitor will understand your desire to take steps to protect it!
