I am really hoping someone can help me with this problem as I just don't know what I have done.
I have built a website around a template which I made, I have added pages, updated template when needed, so all pages could be updatedetc. I have done all this with no problems until yesterday. I need to add a new link into the main menu on the template, a thing I have done many time before, but when I open the template I cannot edit anything on it now, everything is locked. Why is this?
This is really doin' ma heed in so I hope someone can help

Am not sure what you are talking about - - Just your navigation bar or the whole template?

If it is just the navigation bar you should understand that Macromedia apparently didn't intend that you add a naviagation bar to a templated page (not sure why) but I have been successful in building a navation bar in a blank page, adding a template to the page then using the navigation bar to update all the documents in the site. However, I do occasionally 'lose' the ability to update the navigation bar. When that happens I 'clone' a page on my site by doing a save as 'new name' then remove the template from the cloned page. Now I can copy the navigation bar and all the javascript from the cloned page into the template page and 'voila' everything is off and running again.

However if your template is somehow completely clobbered the only thing I know that you can do is recreate the page then 'apply' it to each page in your site. Be Warned!! When you 'apply' a template to an existing page it will overwrite all the text on the page so you will have to 'clone' every page in the site, one at a time, apply the new template, then copy the text from the old page into the new templated page and 'save as' to the original name for the page. Once completed you can delete the clone and that page should be ready to go - - Not a pretty picture but I don't know any shortcuts for this one.

the whole template is locked, I can't change anything, so it looks like I will have to make a clone like you said. I was hoping it would be a quick easy solution as the site this template is for is a large site with loads of pages.

One of my websites has slightly more than 400 pages - Lucky for me I have 5 different templates for the different sections so I only had to clone a hundred pages or so when it happened to me.

Let us know if you find a better way - - surely this is not what Macromedia intended.
