What do you think about site builders?

My friend went to this kind of seminar that claim that it's-easy-to-make-money-online-what-you-need-to-do-it's-to-have-a-website ... whatever ... she came back with an expensive merchant account she purshased from this guys, a junk whosaler-dropshippers list of over-saturated markets that nobody wants and people sell at $ 0.99 on Ebay for people who don't know anything about webmarketing, a hosting + "free" site builder ($35/ month).... and a lot of bonuses ( that you can find free on internet) to give her the impression that she did a great deal. The strategy of this guys was sell their merchant account

I was very upset to see that she has been scammed because of her ignorance, I succeeded to convince her to cancel her merchant account because she can find better and cheaper ... (anyway, she didn't have a business yet) so she did. But she wants to keep her website ($35/month + no domain name included + a weak site builder with no design, no templates ... nothing). I want to convince her that she made a very bad deal and she needs to cancel this. She built the website (very plain, white background etc.) and I noticed that the adress of her home page is the domain name that she bought for an other company but the adress of the other pages are a sub-domain name: hername.theripofcompany.com.

When I look at the source codes of her pages, there are no meta-tags. I don't know how the search engines can find her website. Plus, she wants to sell her Cds on this website. She doesn't know anything about webmarketing and webmastering. I find that she limits herself with this site builder and the hosting without the important features is too much expensive. She wants just a 4 pages website.

I need to be very persuasive to explain her what it's not the best option. I am a webmaster myself and I read a lot about webmarketing. Can someone gives me strong argruments to convince her? And what do you think about site builders?

Personally, I wouldn't go near site builders. Not entirely sure if I'd of said that a few years ago...

Anyway, get her to come to WT and have a read up and talk to lots of other people. One thing about web marketing, and in fact, probably everything in life, is NEVER take advice and gamble just on what one person has told you! I'd always seek other people's oppinions, and where better than here?
