I have heard alot of guys complain about not using frames and iframes and how its bad for search engines. But is that really true, i read on google's site that the bot follows src links and href links...

I think what people talk about when the refer to iframes being bad for search engines is that the search engines will display whats in the "alt" tag and not whats actually in the frame, even thought they follow links.

iframes have a place and can be used, just carefully. Im not 100 percent and Im by all means no SEO expert, but Im guessing that if you dont use iframes on your main page, or if you do they contain irrelevant items, that you should have nothing to worry about search engine wise.

Im sure others will have some more input on this.

Yea i have a database of movies and so theres a page full of links of movies that start with an 'a'.
movie.php?t=AB
movie.php?t=ABC
movie.php?t=ABCD

there is a iframe on movie.php which displays the information for all the different movie and i REALLY need the information to get indexed by google because that is pretty much the meat of the site.

If the iframes dont work, ill have to put in more code and get rid of it, but itd be great if i can get some more confirmations on this situation

One of the main problems with frames and search engines is this:
Although the engine will spider and index all your content (hopefully), it will probably display any one of those content pages to an end user. The user then only sees the content of that one frame and none of the stuff thats supposed to go around it. No navigation or anything. They'll read the content then move on to the next site, cos they won't be able to navigate around your site. And chances are they won't come back.

One way to get around this is to use scripting, if a user lands on the page, load the main page then re-load the content page into the frame. This will make no difference to search engines cos they don't execute scripts. It will however make a difference to those who don't have scripting turned on...

http://yourmp3.net uses frames and on google it just displays what is in the meta description.

This of course proves that iframes and frames are not bad, just copy what you want to be displayed into your meta tags.
