Hello I am a true novice, but have a boss who has asked me to research this. You all have seen sites on the Web that let you select English or Spanish versions (other languages too). Is it hard to develop this functionality for an already existing site? Our client needs to find out how to get his site viewable in Spanish for Spanish speaking users. Thanks in advance to all of you experienced people out there for your advice.

I'm not quite sure if there are any services out there that will do this inexpensively, although it doesn't hurt to search. I had one of my sites translated into German with the help of someone who was actually from Germany...only because online translators (I've come to find out) are for the most part unreliable for the long term effect.

In other words, to translate an entire site would just create jibberish to the person who spoke the language. I have however found online translators useful for short blurbs and casual conversation. I know one thing I had to be careful of was dialect.

I'd suggest looking for someone who will translate for you and create some php includes for the text?!

Otherwise, here is one of the best translators I've found: http://translation2.paralink.com/

A simple way to do this, it to just make a duplicate site in Spanish. (Time consuming though). Then have a link from the English Site saying something like "Click Here For Spanish Version".

When you have had your translation done for you it is always wise to grab a dictionary and double check it for yourself. I used to work for a Spanish firm that shipped onions from Spain to the UK. A simple mistake in the spelling of "onion" however, let eveyone know we offered good rates for the transportation of "vulgar" material !

Mind you the number of enquiries we got did increase
