Hey all,

I'm in the process of working on a shopping card component for my company. Has anyone else done this on even a remotely mid to large size scale? Do you suggest buy a pre-built package and custimizing it (which is the case with bulletin board software)? Please advise.

Getting it custom developed can be quite pricey... I would say that it depends on the extent of customization you need.

you can find many good shooping cart scripts for free. Some use paypal and other will require a merchant account. oscommerce is one i have used in the past. Its clean and offers many different payment options.

Hmm... If you know enough programming, you should be able to write something that's customized for your own needs.

I hate the idea of re-inventing the wheel thus there are a lot of ready made eCommerce scripts that are very customizable. However, they all lack a decent template system and most are based off osCommerce which seems to be more a complex programming excersize rather than a user friendly system.
