Hi,
In one of my redesign projects I am working on web pages that were created in FrontPage and I am redoing in Dreamweaver. And all these pages are locked, and on opening say, "This file can be viewed but not changed." I can view but not edit. So I'm stuck, and stumped, and looking for help. Does anyone know anthing about this? Or any way to unlock the files?

Thanks!
Andrea

does it say its read only?
does it load after the warning?
does it show you the code?
if it shows you the code, you can copy it directly and paste it into the code view in dreamweaver...
you can also open up the page in a browser, look at the source code (view > pagesourcce), and do the same as i just mentioned

It says, "xxx.htm is a locked file and can be viewed but not changed. What would you like to do with this file?" and then it gives the option to cancel or view. So I can view it and also the code. So is there no way to "unlock" these files? (And how does one lock a file to begin with??? Is the "key" in the code?).

It sounds from what you are saying that I will need to recreate new new pages for all the files. Right?

Thanks for your help.

I just replicated this problem by right clicking on one of my .htm files in windows explorer and selecting the Read Only attribute.
When i open the file in dreamweaver i get the same error as you, i also have an option to make it writeable.

I'd check the file attributes using explorer on all your files to make sure they are read and write enabled. (that is the Read only attribute is NOT selected). You somtimes get this problem when copying files off of CD's.

Cheers.
