Hi, I'm new to this site and to web design and i have been learning frontpage 2003 for the past month while i build my site. The problem i'm having is that i started my site by creating all my folders first so i get the right structure and now when i want to put a template i created in every folder, it takes for ever!! Basically, when i paste into folders in frontpage it takes about 15-20 seconds to complete the copy before i can move to the next folder and paste again. I have over 7000 folders to paste into so what would be a 2 day job now becomes a 2 weeks job

I have also tried copying the .htm and _vti_cnf of the template in normal explorer view because i think that it would have a quicker copying time but the copied pages all open with pictures and links missing.

Another thing i have tried is using the find and replace function in frontpage but that only changes text etc inside the pages. Also, i have tried using the dynamic web template function, thinking that i could create just a blank page in each folder then somehow search for all 'new_pages' and apply the template to all of them at once...but...it won't let me do this either. I have also looked for add-ins on the web but that came up with nothing and i have no idea how to go about using macro's, in excel macro's are easy, in frontpage

I have run out of ideas and i think i'm verging on RSI...Please help!!!

Thanks Rich

hmm.....

the only advice I can offer based on experience is to start using macromedia dreamweaver. I think many on here will agree it is the industry standard and it should work better for you.

Also with regards to your template and as you are fairly new to web building it may have been wise to use a content management system such as php-nuke or some other similair PHP script that would allow to add content online via an admin control panel.

If you decide to stick with frontpage I think the problem with the links and pictures could be to do with where they are linking to. Once a template is in a folder it will change where it links to. If all of your images are located in the sites root (i.e not in a folder) they may have been inserted as imgname.jpg - any pages not in a folder will have found the image ok. Once in a folder however the page will look for the image in the folder, because the folder becomes site root. so the page will look for /folder/imgname.jpg - meaning the image isnt there and wont be displayed. The same with hyperlinks.

If I haven't at all answered your question or ive got the wrong idea feel free to PM me or post here and Ill try and help you.

Good luck
