Hi,

I've picked up maintenance of an existing site, that's based on the template 3col_leftnav.css.

So far I've been doing ok making small updates, learning things and having a ball. However, need to get my mind around doing updates and seek advise on updating a 'nav' link.

I have a number of links within the left hand nav column of the index page and this left hand nav column is replicated on eight of the pages on the site. Say if I wanted to change where one of the links points - to a new page in this instance - then is there an easy way to cascade the link change to the eight other pages?

I've mucked with search/replace with no luck, but am unsure of if I'm missing something fundamental which would make this job easier than manually updating each of the eight pages in turn.

Appreciate any advise or pointing me to information to help.

Cheers
Scott.

If the navigation bar is set up in dreamweaver as an asset, you can simply open it in the assets thing and make the change - it will then update all the other pages.

If the link you're wanting to change is within a dreamweaver template file then just alter the link and when you try to save the template it will ask you if you want to update the files linked to it.

As Minaki says you can also go to the Asset Tab. In there you can select the template icon (second up from the bottom) and then you could right click on the template in the list and select Update Entire Site. This would update all files linked to that template.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I can understand and see what you've said, I believe my issue is now, that there is no template, it's just been copied or "saved as" along the way. Going to investigate if there is a way to create a new template - use it for any new pages, but also get the existing ones to "connect" to it as such.

Cheers...Scott.

Now, I'm just going to talk to myself!

Found you can update links sitewide from the Sites Menu.

Simple solution, but it works. I will investigate the good advice on templates and how to manage this in over time.
