I am novice in Dreamweaver but can't figure out if i can make a link open a page in a layer. I tried frames but due to low ranking on search engines this was not a succes.
Opening a whole new window is anoying for the user. I know i can make different layers and make them display different text on occassion, but that would be my second alternative. Can some one help me?

I think you can use php for this...

Try searching for something like "php includes" I think thats what you are looking for
Good luck!

I am not sure what you are asking. Do you want to open a new page from a link or are you trying to use layers to display hidden text and graphics when they are mousedover or clicked on?

In other words i try to have a page displayed in a layer after for instance a button action.
I try to avoid frames, and need a good alternative. As in another reply to my question PHP might be the solution but am not too much in to that yet

jayroon,

You will want to create your layers in DW using the z-index to determine their visibility. Then go under the "Tag Inspector" panel to Behaviors and choose the events for your botton, i.e. onmouseover, onclick, or what not.

That is a cursory overview, you might want to consult the Macromedia Dev forums for more info, if you get confused.

Hope that helps,

Thanks,

After i had been working with the layers and their visibility that it's not the ideal solution for my problem. Links on invisable layers for instance can still be clicked eventhough not visible. And sometimes multiple layers show and when page lost track of sequences. Thanks for your help though!

Hmmm... That is weird I have never had those problems before. Are you sure that your behaviors are set correctly. Also have you considered using javascript pop-up windows rather than layers to get the job done? It might be easier.
