How are we supposed to stretch our content so that it will look sort of centered and good looking on all resolutions? Looking for help.

I havn't used a single spacer image in any of my 3 recent sites...
I simply use CSS to align things to the left and right of the page, and use a combination of absolute and relative positioning, along with floating to position elements, then the text goes into pre defined content areas and will flow nicely as the browser is resized. Looks good anywhere from 640x480 upwards.

What if we are using graphics in our page? Should I try to absolute postion the pics or relative postioning/ I I design the site for 1024*768 resolution then if the viewers have 800x600 res. then surely they'll have to scroll horizontally. Could you help me out please, cos I tried css postioning yet couldn't come to a conclusion.
