Hi All,

I hope I am doing this right - I am having my first time at publishing a website which I designed for a friend using Frontpage Express (using Windows 98 if that makes any difference) and I am finding it a total nightmare
I came accross this site and am hoping for some guidance....

I purchased some webspace through 4Uhosting and my friend already had a domain name registered, 4U advised I need to transfer the domain name which is turning into a total nightmare, I thought it was Nominet that I needed to contact but now I find that she is also registered with Yellowpages - does this make sense to anyone

Anyway, I am liasing with Yellowpages now and am completing a form which I hope will transfer the domain name, but 4u are telling me I also need to get nameservers changed - Yellowpages have not mentioned this..... Also, nominet told me to contact my ISP who I thought was Wanadoo, but they say they don't deal with this sort of thing, I am worried now that nobody will change the nameservers - Help!

Lastly, I am very confused about how to go ahead and publish, the website has about 7 separate pages that all link to each other, at the moment they are all saved as separate html documents, do you think this will make it difficult to save them to the web?

If anyone has been kind enough to read this to the end - thank you! - and if you can offer me any advice at all - an even bigger thank you.

Sandra.

Ok you have to change your domain name servers or DNS....find out what your DNS is at your host (4u) and then go to your domain name register and modify your registers DNS settigns to point to the hosts (4u) DNS for your site.....

I gotta run but ill answer that other question later.... I hope that all made sence if you are having a problem just go to your hosts help and ask what your DNS is then go to your registers help and tell them you need top point your domain name to the DNS from 4u....

edit........

ok so now for the second part.... with frontpage im almost positive somewhere there is a "publish to web" button.... it should walk you through a wizard process of setting up your ftp account with your site.... i.e. it should ask you for your domain name and then your username/password enter all the info and it should publish it.... if not you can always ftp your files to your hosts httpdocs (or similar) directory....

hope this all helps....

That's great, thank you so much, I am going to try to do the first bit now.

The problem I am having with the second bit is that I can not find the 'publish to web' option, I did look it up in a text book which said the same thing, but I don't seem to have this option - do you think it could be because I am using Windows 98?

The closest thing I can find is to go File, Save As, it then asks me for a Page title and a Page Location, I then get stuck! I am not sure what information goes in here, I assume I can call the page anything I want, but what goes in the Page Location - should that be my domain name? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Also, I have made about 7 pages but they are all saved as separate HTML pages, do you know if this will still work - do I load / save them separately to the web?

Thank you to all those who have read this and thanks CasaPages for your help.

You need to create a web within frontpage. Then use File -> Import and select the seperate HTML files and have them imported into your new FP web.

After that is complete (making sure you imported the images, assigned one of the html pages as the /home.html or /index.html page etc as well) you can use File-> publish and then it will ask you for your username and password at your hosting account.

You must change the DNS as stated before to your host. It will prob take about 2-3 days for it to take effect so you wont see your website at the domain name until it does.

PM me for any other details if you still need help.
