Having real problems gettng forms to work in frontpage.

I have been working in design view as i am not an expert in html. My web host is streamline. Here is a series of interactions I entered into with them (you need to read from bottom to top!) and they are pretty much useless now depite me trying numerous things. Can anyone help? As now at wits end with it! All i want is to allow visitors to my site to enter information that i can storein a database!

Thanks
Becky

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

Unfortunately we do not provide scripting help, we suggest searching on google for scripting help sites.

I have written the scripts (twice now) the problem is when published and entering in the form I always get a page saying the host doesn't support:

"Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page: "http://www.ks3gcsesciencetutoring.co.uk/Contact.htm""

This information is on the help page:

Important Forms depend on technology that your Web server must provide. That technology may be FrontPage Server Extensions (FrontPage Server Extensions: A set of programs and scripts that support authoring in FrontPage and extend the functionality of a Web server.), SharePoint Team Services version 1.0 from Microsoft, or Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0. However, it could also be ISAPI (ISAPI: Internet Server Application Programming Interface. A Web server application-development interface, developed by Process Software and Microsoft, that can be used in place of CGI.), NSAPI (NSAPI: Netscape Server Application Programming Interface. A Web server application development interface developed by Netscape Communications Corporation.), CGI (CGI: Common Gateway Interface. A standard method of extending Web server functionality by executing programs or scripts on a Web server in response to Web browser requests, such as in form processing. Use of CGI can make a Web page more dynamic.), or Active Server Pages (ASP). Before you create a form, ask your Web server adminstrator or Internet service provider (ISP) (ISP: A business that provides access to the Internet for such things as electronic mail, chat rooms, or use of the World Wide Web. Some ISPs are multinational, offering access in many locations, while others are limited to a specific region.) which technology the server supports.

However, it always asks me to save the page as an asp file. Which I do. So i'm not convinced it's me making the mistake? Do you believe it is?

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

No, we full support details being entered into an access database, however we do not setup the scripts for you, you will have to do this yourself.

Please can you make your response here:

like? I want to be able to put the details into microsoft access - don't wish to spend time reentering when I should be able to do this? Will it be necessary for me to find an alternative web host to be able to do this?

--------------------------

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

Unfortunately frontpage extensions are very tricky, it's very hard for us to provide good support on them without actually being on your computer. We would suggest using an alternate method of scripting to send emails from your website.

StreamlineNet

why whenever or whichever way i make a form you cannot support it despite frontpage extensions added. You are either unable to do so or have not instructed me how to do so appropriately - i am following all the instructions provided by both frontpage manual and help files. I have now rewritten it from scracth as advised yet it still doesn't work.

--------------------------

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

What advise do you require?

started making it from fresh and have only done the simple text boxes so far. Have asked for it to be sent to database which is now also saved on the site. Required me to save contact page as asp file. this is where the problem seems to lie. Please advise further as this is getting very frustraing and holding up the launch of my advertising and therefore customers

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

It may be easier.

I know what you mean but frontpage extensions has not changed with versions. They have changed sharepoint services but can't find anything specific - woul dit be easier for me to try building forms from scratch rather than using a wizard?

--------------------------

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

Basically Frontpage 2003 has features that aren't suppored on frontpage extensions 2002.

have checked manual/help files and consulted a frontpage 2003 book but can't find any mention of what you are asking me. Don't really know what to do next - fuether suggestions please

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

Unfortunately we do not have access to frontpage 2003, however we would imagine it would be in the help files/manual.

Please can you make your response here:

sorry how will it tell me? what or where in front page i am looking for?i want to try and resolve this asap.

--------------------------

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

a) Frontpage should tell you which features are frontpage 2003 only features.

b) Again it should tell you which features are backwards compatible.

Kind Regards,
StreamlineNet

how do i a) check this b)do this?

--------------------------

Hi REBECCA,

Thanks for your query.

This may well be causing the issue then. If you are trying to utilise FP2003 specific components these may well fail.

Please could you check that all components that you are using are backwards compatible with FPX2002.

Also, if the component utilises the FPX search module, this is disabled for performance reasons.

Please can you make your response here:

when trying to page through frontpage it says the web server at http://ks3gcsesciencetutoring.co.uk does not appear to have windows share point services installed.

apparently this could be for the following reasons:
1. web server does not have front page extensions installed.
2. the web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. proxy settings may be incorrect.
4. an area may have occured in the web server

it says to try publishing instead through ftp or webDav which i tried through ftp but as you can see ftp didn't work fully.

Please get back to me with suggestions.

In other words, you have made your site using FP and have used FP's upload feature. There is nothing more worse than doing that. I suggest that you either:

1. Change your host (as the features they offer are very slim) to something good like Trap17.com or Astahost.com (you will need to keep posting in the forums to maintain your account).

Or.
1. Save your work onto the computer, then put all the files (apart from FP extension files) into a zip folder. Then, upload the folder and decompress everything into your host.

You should try to however learn HTML, it will be alot easier than relying on FP.
