> Links or site names of good websites that review web tools and utilities (community tools/ scripts/tips ‘n tricks etc.)
-

-
www.dafont.com for fonts (obviously)
> I’m thinking of using a discussion forum. How much work is it to be a web discussion forum administrator? I imagine not a lot coz you can delegate to other moderators.
- Forums are extremely easy to get the hang of, just play around with the admin control panel and you will be a pro in no time.
> Any experiences with free forum tools e.g. Snitz or other ready made forum tools?
- Invision Free Forums (
http://invisionfree.com/) Hosted externally. Easy to find skins, mods and hacks. However these forums include ads.
- MyBulletinBoard (
http://www.mybboard.com/) Very nice forums, lack of themes to download, scripting is done well, admin control panel made easy to use and navigate around.
- FreeBB (
http://www.freebb.com/) Hosted externally. Easy to find skins, mods and hacks.
- PhpBB (
http://www.phpbb.com/) User-Hosted version of the above, includes more features - recommended over FreeB
out of the above i would recommend using MyBulletinBoard unless you wanted to skin your own or download skins, if so i would use phpbb.
I used FrontPage a lot previously. So easy until the site gets big/complex. Then it can all get a bit crap. Any comments on latest FrontPage or recommendations on using Dreamweaver/other HTML editors?
- FrontPage adds a lot of unecessary code into your website if you use the design view. I prefer to write my own code in the HTML editing part of frontpage as it allows you to preview the site without having to upload.
Good luck getting back into webdesign.
Hope you find my post helpful.
