Hi all,
The company I work for have now placed me in control of the website that was developed in Flash by a contractor. Already we require changes and although I have some website experience, Flash is proving to be somewhat difficult. For example one page has a list of several staff members, and I will need to add a new member. I have opened the .fla file and clicked on the 'cell' on the timeline that displays the list of staff. I tried to copy the last text but editing it actually edited the source. I have checked the properties for this control and it is a button, but when I add another button to the scene it looks completly different (more like a button rather then text) I'm guessing that this 'button' is actually text with the characteristics of a button. I have clicked the edit symbols button on the right of the scene 1 bar and it lists both Name1_txt and name_btn. I'm finding this confusing. Basically I would like to add another button for a new meber of staff.
As I mentioned before I have a firm understanding of HTML and I have even developed sites in DreamWeaver but Flash really has me confused. Any advice is welcomed.

Mitch.......

The answer to your problem is very simple.

1. Copy and paste one of the staff member buttons on to the stage.
2. Select the copied button and in your Properties panel you will see the name of the symbol (Instance of: "Symbol name"). Next to that in the Properties panel is a "Swap" button, click it.
3. At the bottom of the Swap Symbol window is a little icon like two pages and an arrow, click it.
4. You will now duplicate the original button, give it a name that is unique and click ok.
5. The buttons name has now changed to whatever you called it, check in the Properties window.
6. Now double click on the button or go to Edit > Edit Symbol and change the text as you see fit.

Ta da, job done.

PM me if you get stuck.

Good luck

Cheers,
I spent a bit of time on it yesterday and managed to achieve what I set out to do. My problem was not using the Library to duplicate and change objects/symbols. Once I got the Library in view I was able to work through it.

Thanks again.
