Hi everyone! I am desperatley seeking some help to sole a very annoying problem.

I have always wanted to host my own web site on my own server. I am not qualified in web design, but I like to teach myself. I am having two very annoying problems.

1. Microsoft Frontpage Component Run Time Error.

2. Server hangs when I try to upload web.

The server I am using is a Compaq Proliant 1600 with Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Web Edition. As far as I can tell, I have configured this properly after reading the Microsoft bible. (Introducing Windows Server 2003 + MCSE/MCSA Exam Books)
Since doing this, I have tried to publish my site from a friends computer, but there is a very long wait before i get a message box saying a web could not be found, or the server is out of service. I got home, and the server had just frozen!

I am using Microsoft Office XP with Frontpage for my web design, and for my support page, Microsoft Frontpage Server Extensions have to be installed. I have tried to publish over my network to stop the server hanging, but it is saying the Extensions have not been installed, when I know they have.

Any help would be gratfully appreciated, (even if it is to recommend a book on the subject!) as I am fed up with sitting up till 5:30 AM for nights on end trying to sort this out!!!
Best Regards
funky

Well I don't know one bit about hosting your own server, seens how I've never done that and done plan on it lol. But I am a programmer and I can tell you this. Theres are three different types of errors... symatic errors, syntax errors, and runtime errors. Runtime errors basicly mean that the coding in the program is fine and you dont get errors until you run the program. So maybe your frontpage program is corrupted or invalid? Did you download it or run it from a disc?

Hi there,

Honestly I'd suggest that you skip the part trying to serve the page from your own comp. Simply coz
a. Its too expensive
b. Its too technical and you don't have formal training to handle such stuff
c. There are plenty of host that do this same stuff for peanuts.

Moreover the fact that a professional server will have a high band speed won't keep you in the que either, like your current server does.

Having said all this, if you are still adamant on trying out this stuff your self then you need to install the Microsoft IIS. This is included in your windows CD (NT and above). After you have done that, you should upload your webpages in a directory called the wwwroot accessible from Inetpub (folder) placed in your drives first folder.

There is a huge chapter on DNS which you should read up from some book.

Or, as I suggested, buy hosting - its cheap.
