I have agreed to edit someone's website while their webdesigner is away. These people use www.fasthosts.co.uk
All they want me to do is to add some pictures, text, perhaps on a few new pages with the same design of the rest of the website.
I got the password/account number etc.
When I log into the site, the only thing I see that I beleive could be useful is ''Configure website''. When I click on that all I see is things about username, password, account number, url, FTP number, ISP etc.

What do I do to edit this site?

Do I need to install FTP/CuteFTP on my computer? If so, what do I do then?
Please help me!!!

(btw, yes, I know I am not fit for the job lol)

Hi ISF,
  1. Install CuteFTP
  1. Download an existing page on which to base your new page. Copy it and edit it.
  1. Add links to existing pages so you can access the new page
  1. Upload the new page and all pages amended with the new links

Is this what you wanted?

Ha ha I don't know how to work the ordered list!

HAHAHA... Well, now you know that webdesign isn't peace of cake! lol!

You'll need two programs; An FTP-client (like SmartFTP or CuteFTP), and a website generator (like Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage). You can use anything to edit websites, but since you obviosly don't have any HTML knowledge, download Frontpage or Dreamweaver.

When you got that done, let me know, and I'll lead you through the rest of the process...

Thanks for the help
I am not sure, but I do not think I have Frontpage (I'll have a look around). Is it possible to use Publisher instead?

I'm not really sure, but I highly doubt it. You can use Word, but it's messing up the code really bad, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Go to Macromedia.com and download Dreamweaver! That's what I would do...

(sorry for the late response by the way...!)

There are a lot of free WYSIWYG editors out there for the taking. That will help you with your page construction. In terms of FTP programs, FileZilla has been a personal favorite of mine. CuteFTP, at the time, didn't really have all the features I was looking for, personally. When you get an FTP program (or if you have one, now), do you know how to log onto their site with it, so you can make changes? It will probably be something like ftp.fasthosts.co.uk for the login adress, then I'd assume you'd have the username and password to use. typically the port number is 21, but that may be different for your site. Hope I could help.

Okay, I'm sorry... I've even read the announcement stating this .
The mods should be more strict on that policy then, because one of the first posts I ran into, had several similar words in it...

I'm in for not mixing religion with anything else, including this forum, but I respect the rule, and once again; I'm sorry. It won't happen again...

Thanks everyone!

Well, on their www.fasthosts.co.uk account, I see there are some FTP addresses, I assume it is one of those?
I got Cute FTP and Dreamweaver, so it looks like I am set for programs.

I will get cracking on it, and if I need any help, hopefully you can help me again

thanks a lot everyone

I used an old site I made as an example just to see how this thing works.

So, I entered FTP hostname etc. and it works fine (the page comes up on Dreamweaver), because I had all the password/username. But I don't what these passwords are, I just remember I phoned up my ISP and asked.

When I tried to enter FTP host of the OTHER website (the one I need to work on) it asks for a password. Which password is this? Is this the same password that I need to connect to my Host website? (www.fasthosts.co.uk)? or is it another password? Where can I get this?

Also, once I have edited the website, how do I publish it (so that all the editions are there to see when one visits the site)?
