Does anyone know of an easy way to obtain the file count on one's website? Although I only use about 1/3 of my available disk space the server says I can only have a certain number of files. It is almost unbelievable I have as many as he thinks I do (21000) and yesterday I pruned some, getting it down to 20905 only to find this morning, with no activity whatever on the message board, he was claiming I had 21000 again. I am not sure what is "producing" all these files -- I suspect a bad count on the server's part.

Thanks!

Hi Judy,

in Dreamweaver if you select some files it gives you a file count in the status bar. Does your FTP software do a similar thing when you select all files on your remote site?

Thanks,

Actually I have Dreamweaver so went there to see if I could make it happen and the server wouldn't connect. Don't know why, but I will try again. I had thought perhaps Dreamweaver counted, but couldn't find it in the help section. I am just getting into using Dreamweaver for site maintenance and have been using the PUT command. Don't know why I didn't years ago!

Keeping my fingers crossed ---

Turns out there was a hacker using and old message board folder that came with the server's freebies. I hadn't deleted that folder so he would come and fill it with messages until the server wouldn't allow any more.

I did get Dreamweaver to count but it sure takes a long time to count 20000 files or even display their names! Often I was getting disconnected in the midst of it.

Thanks for the help -- I learned something new!
