I hope this is in the right place. I apologize if not.

This project Cook Images is my first.

I am unsure what to charge. I was thinking by the page and then an additional charge for having to do the mouseover effect for all the pictures (which I hand coded myself because, to be honest, I know of no other way and if anyone else does, please let me know for future reference.) There were almost 300 images.

I need to discuss this with the client today so some suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Blue Apples,

I only post this here because I couldn't find your site in the website review section - when you hover over some links (like Bio) in firefox they disppear.

I'm not sure about the charging structure though, but i'd be reluctant to charge by page/hour if there was a better way of coding the site (e.g. asp.net). If for instance an asp.net coder could write a generic page that accepted the url of the large photo to display in say half a day (is that how it's done, I don't know!), but I took a week to code each page individually because I didn't know a better way.... I'd feel like I was short changing the client. What about further additions to the picture gallery?

I'm sure I've bumped into picture gallery scripts in google at some point though.

Its hard to say how much you should charge. For example what did you have to do to make the photos ready to be displayed online (smaller, crop, etc.) if nothing then there shouldn't be a lot of charge going toward the photos as they were provided to you.

Here is how I charge clients. I use different packages as a starting point for prices. For instance my smallest package is $400.00 for upto 10 pages. This include the graphics, photos, coding, etc. This basic price never changes weather it takes me 2 days or 2 weeks to do this. However I also inform the client before starting a project that if I have to create special coding for their site (such as CMS, a gallery, etc.) then there will be a charge for that.

Not taking away from your design but by looking at the source code I see that everything is done in HTML not in PHP, ASP, Jave, or anything else. So the coding for what you describe is very basic and should not make a large difference in the price.

Thanks for the advice

A picture gallery script would definitely be what I'd need. I have a prospect for another site and it's a bridal shop and would require a lot of images as well.

I've done so much research on this but I'm still not coming up with anything concrete yet.

if the images are uniform in size or it doesn't matter and you have photoshop you could always use the web gallery function

Invariably this topic comes to mind with most web designers, writers, etc. and it can get confusing. Here's an interesting website to go to to read on how to set your rates.

Hope this helps.
