Hi, I was wondering what the standard or any suggestions for the page size should be for most websites? I think my website is too wide and I am not sure what correct size should be for most viewers. www.moolabs.com Thanks in advance for any help

i can only offer my opinion but looking at it, yes i think it's too wide by a long way - most people will be using a monitor with their settings at 1024 pixels wide and so will have to keep scrolling right to see all of your page.

personally i make my websites easily viewed by monitors set to 800 pixels wide and generally these pages still look good in 1024 and don't upset people who have a monitor uncapable of going above 800 pixels wide. people dont mind scrolling down a page but to have to keep scrolling across a page would annoy most people.

WAY to large.

I design templates with a width around 700 pixels.

I tend to use dynamic resizing (width = 100%) on my websites so they appear 'full screen' on every browser and every screen size.

I design the website for 1024 and test it at 800 then view it at the larger screen sizes. My experience is that if it looks good at both 800 and 1024 it is always fine with the other screens sizes...

800px will show horizontal scrollbars in 800x600 resolution. Scroll bars takes about 30px, you can leave a 10px margin on either side. so the ideal size would be 750px.

how do you do dynamic resizing, cos i wanna do that. my site bestfreetemplates.net is not wide enough, but i want people on 800x600 to see it fine. but once i looked at it on a 23" LCD monitor at 1900xsomething. IT WAS TINY. LOL

also what is with your site, no offence but i had real problems with, it.
dunno?

use percentages instead of pixels for dimensions

i.e. width="80%" as opposed to width="770"

just got to make sure your designs are scalable

I thought 790 would do it but it doesnt.
Finally I checked CNN.com .... figured they would have this kind of thing down.

They did 770.

all my sites are now 770.
