All these files are on his HD so DNS doesn't come into play. Domain names don't come into play either.

All you need is a local webserver and then for all intents and purposes your 'domain name' is 'localhost'. No DNS servers get queried since none of it is on the web - you don't even need an internet connection to do this.

Please can you try and keep one topic in one thread?

I'm merging this with some of your others....

When you say 'sometimes unavailable, sometimes not' do you mean that certain pages are always unavailable, and the others always available, or do you mean that all the pages are seemingly randomly available/not available?

they are randomly available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have got xampp and setit up as local on my http but when i go to view the sites they come up as error and yes all my pages are in xammp under websites

Have you used the xampp control panel to start apache? If apache is not running, going to http://localhost will give you errors since there is no webserver there to connect to.
