OKAY WEBMASTERS I'VE GOT ONE 4 YOU!!!
...ready???
I was asked by my web hosting company to, "delete directory /index.html inside of your /httpdocs ". When I try to do this using my dreamweaver FTP I get this message, "An FTP error occured - cannot delete remote file index.html. 550 /httpdocs/index.html/index.html: No such file or directory"
As we all know if you use a hosting company you can only manage your site through your FTPclient. Question? How do I delete files from my httpdocs using my dreamweaver FTP? I await your replies.

ThanX WT

its trying to look in the httpdocs folder, for another folder named index.html then looking for the actual html page in that folder, which im guessing doesnt exist...so try going to httpdocs and selecting and deleting the index.html there.

ThanX dcahrakos,
I finally got that file deleted. If I'm not taking to much of your time I have one more question. I have been studying html codes and it is pretty easy. But my web host company asked me to create a html file.
What exactly is that???

I find it strange that your host asked you to delete index.html - the index page is pretty much a must for any website. It's not logical for them to ask you to delete it. Well, unless your index.html page had something on it that violated the rules...

I agree with you lil_cat_luver,
That's one of the first things I learned about web design was the index page. Well, too late now I already deleted the index and according to my host there were no violations on the site I just need to make an html file. While we're on that subject, anyone know where to find a good html editor? (I know this question has been asked over and over again.)
ThanX

You should ask your host why you were asked to delete it, and if you're allowed to put up a new one.

IMO, notepad is probably the best (and the most simple) one, although it isn't a wysiwyg editor...

Hiya Jolly,
I've checked and found this site that may help you in finding yourself an HTML editor. You have quite a few choices here, too, and the best part, they're all free for the taking. Check it out here.

By the way, all I did to find this was type "free html editors" into Google and that was the first one that popped up.

Hope this helps,
DianeD

P.S. While we're on the subject of freebies, etc. I found an interesting site that offers various free programs from Desktop Publishing to Photo and Image Editing you might be interested in. I've downloaded them and they're all functional and pretty decent. Try going to this site and check them out.

In your first post you asked how to use the dreamweaver FTP to delete that file. Dreamweaver is an HTML editor. Dreamweaver is also a pretty good HTML editor, so if I were you, I would use it.
