Hi Guys,

Wonderining if you could help. Have a friend who wants to build a site for the first time.

They want to know:

1) Where they can get the best free webspace (ie lack of pop-ups)
2) Which design tool to use

Now I myself have my own domain and use Dreamweaver/code myself to create my website, but he is a beginner and has no money to spend. So can someone please let me know any good freeware design tools and the best free webspace around that they know of?

Many Thanks

Chris

It's easy for the hosting. YOU can provide it. Just put his files in: www.your-domain-name.whatever/friendsfiles . Get it?
As for the image editing, probably photoshop.

IMO, I found good free web hosting at netfirms.com, zeeblo.com, bravenet.com. You should visit forum reviews at freewebspace.com and talkhost.com. I think a frontpage extension is good tool for web designing for beginners.

T35.com is a very good free host. They do place a pop under ad on your site, but they offer a lot of space and bandwidth, PHP, SSI, and ftp access, which I do not find on any other free hosts.

As for the design tool, photoshop and paint shop pro are two good graphic programs that offer free trials. I do't know of any totally free graphic problems.

I find that it's a lot better to learn html rather than use a wysiwyg coding program. Notepad supports everything, so use it

http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp offers good tutorials

For a free html editor try firstpage. Just do a search and go from there. It is a great program for free. It also comes with lots of Java scripts that can be added to a webpage with one click. He will like it alot.

Let me know how it works out..

Hi chrisb,
I've come across some very interesting programs that anyone can use to get you started without paying a dime. Check them out below. They're quite interesting.

Inkscape
Open source scalable vector graphics editor

PagePlusSE
Free Desktop Publishing Software

Serif DrawPlus 4.0
Free graphic design, illustration, and vector drawing software

WebPlus 6
Free web site design and publishing software

3D Plus
Free 3D animation and modeling software

Hope this helps,

Hi chrisb! Having in mind that your friend is a beginner and have no money to spend I can recommend him to use some of the free online website builders . Most of them are easy to use and have good features . I personally use sitekreator.com because they offer also free 10Mbs hosting , beautiful templates and many useful features like forums, mailing lists, hits counters, etc.

Web Hosting:
  • 110MB.COM free, lots of space, bandwidth, 1-click-install software, support team (fast too!)
Graphics:
  • INKSCAPE (as previously posted)
Although ILLUSTRATOR would be BETTER.
