Ive started 5 or 6 sites now, only one is completed and running, it gets about 4k hits a month, its a lowrider site im running for a friends car club. The others are just something I mess with when im bored, and I never expect those to be completed. They're far far too much work to do on my own (like a Game cheat website things that are impossible for one person to do alone lol)I just keep messing with them for practice, and to try new things etc. I know little html, but if I need to know something I can, have, and will learn it fast. I mostly use frontpage and have dreamweaver as well im just starting to learn with.

My problem is.. No ideas.. I want to build more websites, ones that are useful and going to be used, and hopefully will be able to pay for themselfs with a small google ad or something.

I really want to get into building websites more.. I just dont have anything to make them about. Eventually id like to start to make money from this, but I dont expect that to come anytime soon.

My question is, where do you get ideas for sites to make? how do you know if an idea is going to work? I would hate to spend a bunch of time making a site, just for it to end up not getting any visitors. Im not asking for anyones ideas, I certaintly wont refuse them.. but I know your all webmasters too, if you have an idea im sure you would do it yourself, im just hoping for some advice on how to come up with some good ideas

Thanks for any help/advice

Well, I know this may not help you the greatest, as I'm not a huge succesful webmaster or anything (yet, ), but these are my opinions.

First of all, I feel that the best places to get website ideas from is the Internet itself. Explore, and learn what is popular, what isnt, what's succesful, what isn't. Look at succesful, popular websites, and try to figure out what they are doing right, and do the same for less-succesful/popular websites, but figure out what they are doing wrong.

After taking what you have learned, you may or may not be able to apply your findings to pre-exising ideas and make them work, or possibly come up with brand new ideas.

Also, one thing to remember. Look at some of the worlds (and the nets) leading companies. In the beginning for a large majority of them, people may have thought nothing of them, not expecting them to amount to anything, but a LARGE part of business is taking a chance, and IMHO, this is a large part of the internet. Of course, you don't have unlimited resources and time, so you need to find a good area, where you arent giving everything away.

Now, people may largely disagree with me on everything I've said, and thats fine, I'm just expressing my opinions. Not everyone agreed with Karl Marx, right?

Good Luck!

Your right that most projects that are a good idea are way too much for one person to handle and also it is definatly hard to find others who will stay dedicated to a long term project.

I have about a billion ideas a day (when I should be working). You just have to see a potential and then go for it, don't expect anything you do to be an instant hit, expect that you will be working towards building a user base for at least a couple of years after your development ends.

Hi Wonka59,

First off, I'd say that you need to commit to one thing at a time....or you'll never get anything completed. Why do you have 5 or 6 unfinished websites? Did you lose interest? Are they something that perhaps you started and don't know where to go next? What are they about? I'd say you lost interest because you never really had an interest in them to begin with.

You are trying to spread yourself too thin, and exhausting all your energies. You're trying to come up with "THE" best of the best...well, we all would love to do that, but first we gotta start at the beginning and stop and think a little bit.

Idea problems? Well, a good place would be to start with you! Yes, you. Who knows you better than you? What do you like to do? What hobby do you like and enjoy doing (aside from websites)? Games? Reading? Swimming, golf, or any sport? What are you most passionate about? Write all these things down on a piece of paper. Then...take one of the items that you are most passionate about, that you wrote down and write down some descriptions, or some things that are unique about each one. Then...after you're done with that....start to envision these items with what do they look like...are they concrete things or abstract things....what colors do you like, what colors does this item remind you of...things like that. And before you know it, just by writing down these little notes - you'll soon devise a whole concept in which to layout a design. Do you want 1 big page, 2 columns, 3 columns...things like that. And before you know it, you'll become "interested and passionate" about it and start the creative juices flowing.

My bet is you'll be creating fantastic websites in no time if you just apply yourself with one at a time. You've got the passion, you've got the energy, now all you have to do is focus!

Just my 2 cents,
DianeD
