Hey guys i have a quick question Ive been doing websites since last year and i am interested on building a Community websites such as www.friendster.com - www.myspace.com This question might be dumb but i still dont know a lot of things about web. How do i start this? what do i need? do i need a special program? can please someone nice enough to explain all the things i should know on making a community websites..

This is what you would need

Your own host

a Mysql database

and a forum program like phpbb2 these are free to use and download

I have created a "MY SPACE" i coded it in one php file. mysql database and a userdatabase that was allready created.

If you want to create a "MY SPACE" kinda thing you could "CUSTOMISE" the codeing of a forum, as they have profiles. Such as this:

(or know a coder... u 99% chance you will have to pay)
2) you will need hosting
3) you will need a host that allows your programming language
4) you will need a database sytem (such as mysql)
also a good domain.

phpBB forums is free so you can also install it by yourself. However a lot of hosting companies offer it.

Yer phpbb2 to are great forums to use and really easy to mod i have just installed 5 forums on my nuke site and got all the login section and registration section to work together

like myspace.com. If you register on myspace.com you will be given a personal page and from there you can do whatever you like, and people can see all your work,pictures there. www.myspace.com/yourspace

Hey there, playkid, I know what you mean, (and did from the start).

To make something like that you need to have a small crack team of nerds, coding and coding away.

You want to create something like MySpace or deviantART. These sites have been built-up from the ground by a team of people, who could aford it. If there was a quick way to make these sites many more people would be doing it.

Basically, you could modify an existing opensource package and rename it as your own, like phpbb or coppermine, and start from there. (are you allowed to do that?).

Or get a team, and start building. Ill help.
