I'm not sure which forum to post my question under, but here goes:

I want to be able to protect my website from nosy viewers. For example, I have a flash MP3 player that plays songs placed in a directory labeled "mp3." If someone were to type in "www.mywebsite.com/mp3" they would be able to view and download all the files in that directory, or in my images folder, buttons folder, etc. is there a way to have a "permission denied" message come up when someone types in the URL of a directory that is not specifically pointed to in the HTML? I still need to be able allow the user to call up the files inside the directory though. Any ideas?

thanks,
-jill

if ur server is a linux/unix one,

then create a .htaccess file in the root and then in it say

Options -Indexes

that should take care of those pesky directory browsing.

Another way is 'default documents' - you'll need to check your server setup, but usually if you make sure there's a file called index.htm (or index.html, or default.htm, .asp, .aspx, etc, again, depending on how the server's set up...) then when someone tries to access that folder, the server will serve them index.html (or whatever the filename happens to be)
