hello everyone, i have a really big problem with my windows media player, actually i do not want to use it at all, but i do not know how important is this program for the good functioning of other players in my com.

This is the problem.... i downloaded real player and i am quite happy with it, then i make it my universal player that's to say to play all my media files but this is not happening everytime i want to play something the windows media player starts and just says that he can not play the fille because a codec problem, finally i removed from my computer and now the real player works Ok, but my question is, is the windows media player really important to upload my media files to my site because looking at the software i use to build my site the icon to upload media files is presicely the windows media player icon, does this mean that this software do not support other media player to upload my files, actually i do not want the windows media, but i do not know if is really necesary for other programs to work.

I will really appreciate any help..

Hi there.

I think your problem is this. Windows Media Player is installed as the 'default player'. To alter this (Windows XP Home) go to:

Start

Set Program Access and Defaults

Choose 'Custom' and click the drop down arrow

Select 'Choose a default Media Player' and select the player you want.

Make sure all the players you want to use on your system have 'Enable access to this Program' selected.

You can reinstall Windows Media Player before you do this and change your preferences later to suit a particular need.

Finally download and install XP Codec Pack (I'm afraid I haven't a link but a Google search should find it easy enough).

Your system should now be OK

I hope this solves your problem.

Take care and God bless

Zippidi

ps Do you have any experience with Dreamweaver? I am new to it and I need some advice on creating links to just open a folder so the viewer can browse it and choose which picture file they want to open. I can't seem to do this.
