Do you think template sites that offer them for sale are popular?

Depends on the designs I guess - something simplistic might not do as well as a design that is visually stunning... I think this type of site is one where less is not more...

Do you mean the designs offered or the design of the site?

Those offered, although I guess a fancier design for the main site would do better... particularly if it is great eye candy.

Hmm okay, well I am pretty pleased with the design I have created so far.

I had a domain I registered ages ago that was supposed to be a template site. The first design was horrible so I am redoing it.

Seems like some of 'em are popular. You might do well with a site like that.

It might be hard, but if you offered a range from simple to complex, and flash, it could do well. I think people are always looking.

I think it is a great idea if you have the time.

You could even give away the more simple designs away for free and of course they would be required to leave "designed by: ....." at the bottom. A good way to get lots of traffic

And to answer you question, I think the free ones are much more popular than the ones that charge for them all...

Yeah I do that too. Sometimes I get discouraged though seeing really excellent designs.

Sometimes I get encouraged though when I see really really bad ones.

I just started a free template site (less than a week old). We're starting off with fairly simple html designs to build up our library. If anyone would like to exchange links it would be more than appreciated. Thanks.

I think they are popular if you provide more quality then free sites.

I think it really depends on the quality of the templates compared to the price. I'f they're extemely expensive I think a lot of people would be inclined to get a web designer. Of course, you can't make them free or else you make no money so probably, if you price them reasonably, only allow them to be bought a few times (I wouldn't buy a template if I was going to visit 100 other sites and see the same design as mine) and have high quality, I expect it would be very popular.

There are a lot of people out there who have basic web development skills but don't have the design skills to make their own sites and for them templates are brilliant.... so thats why I voted 'Not sure'.

I suppose 'Depends' might have been my vote if it was available
