I think it's best for anyone building websites to learn the code and hand code their sites. If you're going to use a WYSIWYG editor I'd recommend DreamWeaver. From what I've seen it leaves less redundant code on web pages.

I'm not sure why Google reports more people using GoLive, but I'll take a guess. Though I have no idea of the price of each at the moment I'm going to guess GoLive is less expensive.

Another guess might be that it comes packaged with Photoshop in some way and the people using GoLive use it more because of it's connection to Photoshop than because of a preference for GoLive.

I think it's been around longer than DreamWeaver too, though I'm not really sure.

Yes that's odd i thought Dreamweaver was widely used. I have not tried GoLive personally, but as van said it probably has something to do with the connection to photoshop. In the Creative Suite.

I didn't really think GoLive was that widely used as well. I've heard ok things about it, but I prefer Dreamweaver as well. They do have a free trial of GoLive here.

I had figured on Dreamweaver being the more common as well. Recently though I've been working on sites that were orignally created with GoLive so I am seeing it more. It also seems to leave alot of proprietory code that has nothing to do with html or any other web language. I'm not crazy about the code Dreamweaver uses, but it's all html, css, and javascript at least.

I took a look at PHP Editor and like a lot of it, but was missing one key feature that I use all the time. I use HTML Kit because of it's realtime editing of files directly on the server. I like how it has an explorer like tree view of the filesystem on the server.

It's not necessariy the greatest editor in the world though if I added some of the extensions for it it might be better. I don't really need a lot in an editor, just some basic syntax highlighting. The realtime editing is great though and saves me so much time in uploading and downloading files.

I use notepad 2 as my basic text editor.

Tried a version of GoLive years ago when I first became interested in web design, in the end I went down the hand coding route. These days I use Dreamweaver, as it was a requirement of my first web design job, all the jobs I see advertised always ask for Dreamweaver experience so have not bothered trying the latest versions of GoLive.

Well Adobe has just acquired Macromedia, so the next WYSIWYG editor will be:

Dreamweaver + GoLive = something for everyone

...Except the price :P
