If you're only going to get one you'll probably get more use out of Photoshop though it will depend some on what kind of graphics you want to create.

Both will probably have similar learning curves though since both products are Adobe after learning one you'll find the other easier to learn.

A simple definition of the differences is that Photoshop is an image editor where Illustrator is a vector graphics program. They both have some tools that overlap though.

Adobe's site can give you more detail about what each program can do.

Photoshop
Illustrator

I use Photoshop exclusively to create all my designs and it's a very versatile program. I do have Illustrator though Photoshop is able to handle all of my graphics needs. In time you may want to learn both since the two programs complement each other nicely.

It is no dout that photoshop is the best choice. It is easy to learn and operate with one month term. Our designers use it very common. Hope you handl with it soon.

In my opinion you can't really say one is *better* than the other, as they are designed to do two different things.

illustrator is more along the lines of what it sounds like, illustration. It is better for making illustrations, doing print/t-shirt design/etc

Photoshop is designed as a photomanipulation tool. More along the lines of screen media like websites.

I would design logos, drawings from scratch, etc with illustrator

do photo editing, layouts, etc with photoshop
