I dint saw your previous thread but you cannot compare photoshop with illustrator (or inverse) because photoshop is image editing software and illustrator is for vector editing.
Ifyou havent any previous experience with any photo editing software i sugest you to start with a simplest editor because photoshop has too many features that may confuse a lot and i wouldnt recomend it, but if you have some previous experience is the best step to go with photoshop because is the best! (in my opinion)
I dont know where you can find a photoshop tutorial book but if you search a little on net you can find plenty of good tutorials for beginers.

I now that my gramar and spelling sucks Im trying to improve it!
