I'm designing a little social network website. I decided first to put the 800width website center, but working whit that CSS in FF it align it to the left, and it actually looks good. But what the users would prefer

A center looking site, empty at right and left or a left align site with adsense at the right

Thanks for answering that stuuuupid question

if you are going to advertise then left aligned;

site looks better in centered; b/c of those who have extremely large screen resolutions will have a huge white space on the right.

Make your site 780px in width so those who have 800px screens wont have to scroll sideways.

I'll vote for centering the site. I'm one of those high resolution people and it always bugs me when I see a site up against the left edge of my browser with nothing at all on the right half. I relaize I'm still seeing the same amount of website when it's centered, but it somehow feels like I'm using more of my browser.

If you're going to make the site fit at 800x600 then definitely no more than 780px. I actually tend to go with 760px just to be safe.

CENTER I SAY... CENTER! The first site i made for someone else besides myself was one of those left aligned pages, mainly because they wanted "absolute positioned everything" and i simply found it easier to push it all to the side. They have recently asked that i change their site so it is... you guessed... CENTERED! As far as width goes to accommodate the 800 people, i have gone as low as 755px. But, that was before i decided to start making things expand and contract. That's my end suggestion, if you are dealing with size issues... just make fit everything. Of course i don't have access to anything larger than 1024x768, so, i'm sure most of the stuff i have done is complete trash to those lucky * who can afford screens the size of a buick.
