I have some experience in HTML, PHP , JSP but never worked with a CMS.
For a new project (company profile), I'm looking for a fully featured CMS
that's easy to use for a beginner in CMS - I don't have a lot of time
to read tutorials etc..

Do you recommend Postnuke ? Mambo ? Joomla ? other ones ?

Thanks

Hi funlounge,
I have used mambo, joomla, easy cms, limbo and some other lite cms and i recommend you to start with limbo.
Limbo is a "lite" edition of mambo but offers the same overall functionality and usage. Its very fast because is capable to run text files, its multilingual and uses the same templates as mambo!

Before you make your decision i sugest to to visit www.opensourcecms.com
they have installed the most open source cms and you can try it before you decide with whats right for you.
My 2 cents.

I'd recommend php-fusion. It is really easy for beginners and you can't really go wrong with it.

Instead of Limbo I would suggest Drake CMS which is a development fork with LOTS of improvements and new features. It has a much faster new flatfile database system and supports any other database too.

You say you have "some experience" in those areas, but you don't have time to read anything about CMS and want it easy for a beginner.

This tells me you haven't bothered to Google anything to learn CMS on your own -- sorry; but with CMS systems, no matter which you choose, you have to face the fact that you are going to have to read Tutorials on any of them ... CMS systems isn't designed for push a few buttons; enter a few lines of text; and Voila -- it's online!

You've been given some very good links -- buckle down and start reading, for it seems you've bitten off a larger chunk than you can chew at this point.

I'm not sure if I can be much help as I am not very technical really so much so that I just want a CMS set up for my and the wife.

Found your post because my wife and I wanted to set up a quick website that we could both look after. CMS is the correct word I belive? for doing it yourself?

anyway, I've found a couple of nice ones such as

http://www.webandgo.co.uk

http://www.sitekit.net

http://www.eibs.co.uk/

All seem friendly enough. My wife is currently talking to them all and giving me feedback while I keep searching myself ) from what she says the http://www.webandgo.co.uk one seems most easiest and suitable so far. Not sure what specifics you had for your CMS but my son has a vision imparement which means if he is to help us our CMS must be DDA compliant or at least friendly enough for us to use it with Firefox. I'm pretty sure all of the above do that but it depends what you want really.

Anyway, I hope that helps, im off now to search further.
If anyone knows any other CMS that I could try without having to do any installs etc i would like to hear from you, thanks.

Nigel

I had to just add that whoever you are travelagent, you're a very narrow minded person. Did it ever cross your mind that there are companies that will set everything up for you for a fee? not everyone is a cheapskate and can't afford to get a professional company to do it all for them so all they have to do is use the content editor....

silly silly man
my wife agrees

I've had alot of success with Drupal & Joomla.
I'd say Joomla is better for beginners since you can purchase / download a lot of addons (or w/e they call it. I forget) to make your site better.

What ever CMS you go with, I'd go with any system that has a lots of developers and a large community. That way if you runinto any trouble, you can always get help!

I've used joomla and has been loving it.. It is quite easy to get a hand of it and once you do, you're limitless of what you can do.. Cuz there's a lot of extensions which are very good in Joomla compared to the others

ripe website manager all the way.... I'm biased though. It's easy for beginners because you do not need to install it.

I disagree with those who say Joomla! is easy.

It's overwhelming. Never had a client who never called me and asked me this, that and the other.

But regardless of that, it certainly is worth giving a try if you want one of the best CMS'.

i happen to like php-fusion a lot, but wordpress just seems to be the easiest. I do like the many infusions (widgets) available for php-fusion though, there are a lot of people developing for it. php-fusion has so many features you could almost make it a 'portal' to your site.
