I run an I.T. company called Firefly I.T.

We do mainly online application design using PHP / MySQL and websites with minimal tables(or no tables at all if I can get away with it!) / CSS, all hand coded and well optimised for search engines / accessibility nowadays (although it wasn't the case when we started out... back in the days when I thought that Dreamweaver buttons and Flash were 'really cool'.... ).

I think if you are designing your website for your own personal purposes, then no issues. But if you are designing a website for services or ecommerce in mind then keep the SEO tricks and techniques in mind. Because at the end of the day what matters is your sales, not a work of art. What do you think?

I don't own one but do own a hosting company. I am thinking about hiring a person to do designs because my hosting site's isn't the best and I could use someone for that. I also am thinking about offering web design services to with hosting. But anway you all think that is a good idea?

shanee it's certainly something to consider. I do the same things myself. My company is obviously a hosting company given the name, but I also offer a variety of services as a way to be able to add a little more to a basic hosting account. Truth is I'm making more money at the moment doing web design than I am with the hosting.

If you do offer design you just want to make sure you can build a relationship with someone who will be available to you and who's designs you like. They will be representing your company after all. It might even be a good idea to establish relationships with several designers so you can offer a variety of styles to your clients. And of course you can always hire someone to work in-house.

One thing to keep in mind with contracting out to other designers is that you'll be paying their prices in most cases and may not get to set your own. The better the designer the higher the price likely though not necessarily.

The idea is good and many web hosts do offer web design as one of their services.
