Hey all. I am very new to website design and maintnance. Basically my company hired me, said "we need you to learn how to update and work on ur website, along with the job we're actually hiring you for" and so they bought me dreamweaver, and a book to help me out.

So i have made some minor changes to my website, and one thing that the original website designer did was link an online catalog to the website in .pdf format. Instead of creating one page that goes to the whole catalog he split it up into 9 different sites. Well i spent time working on that and fixed it. When i went to update the links on all the other pages of the website i didn't have many problems changing the links. The only page that i cannot update is the homepage (index.html).

I have followed the same procedure for this page as every other page on the website. Make the changes, select the file, connect to the server and then "put" the files onto the web, and the rest of the pages had no trouble uploading. However when i do this with the index.html page the page doesn't upload at all.

Does anyone have any tricks/suggestiong for me to fix thi problem? i would greatly appreciate it.

The page is http://www.rainbowoptics.com if anyone wants to take a look at the source code or something. Also some constructive criticism would be nice. I didn't design the page, but i would like to know what is wrong and right with the pages. The orange is ugly i know)

Thanks in advance

as for the site design / look is concerned , i would have liked if you had kept the hover on any text color to white as well and not change to red .

I had this problem a few times, but my solution was easy - hopefully all I had to do is all you'll have to do.

A lot of HTML editors save HTML files with a .HTM extension. If your homepage insists on .HTML, you may have to force it to be saved as such.

Also, you can try deleting (or just renaming) the original index.html page and replacing it with your own. A last thing to try (and I mention this cause I usually forget to do it) is clear out your cache, load index.html and refresh the page (F5).

Those are the "easy" fixes I've run into. Simple solutions that are just sometimes overlooked.

Sandrac Thanks for the ideas, i will try those today, and let you know how it goes.

I agree Arindra, the red hover on a lot the links looks really bad (especially the main menu bar where it's difficult to read). In my free time i am redesigning the webpage and will use a more readable color for the hover color, and i am completely getting rid of the orange that plagues most of the pages.

Thanks for the responses

Honestly, I am just going to basically blow the whole thing up and start over, and use fewer images and more .css script to get what i want in there.

I finally got it on the net though, for some reason I? had moved index.html to a different folder, and not realized it, so when i loaded it, nothing was happening. Anyways, the stopgap solution can be seen at www.rainbowoptics.com/index.html. Stuff like this is a common problem with this site, because the file system my predecessor used confuses me.

While I have put page one of the redesign on the web, even though there are no links to or from it yet. it can be seen here www.rainbowoptics.com/newindex.html

Thanks for all the help.

I agree with this. Because it is already recognized as a botton. And the color red clashes with that true blue site.
