Hi, I am using Dreamweaver 8.

I have created some "Hotspots" on a page that I want to do different things.

First, I want some of the Hotspots to hyperlink to other pages within my site but I don't want the page that I am hyper-linking from to stay open. - Do I set it to _Parent, _Self or do I just leave it blank, or something else?

I also want to make a hyperlink, from a Hotspot, to open a page within another website (which is not mine), but I want that other website to open in a window within my website. In other words, I want my website to stay open so when they close out of the other site, they will be in the same page that they were in when they clicked on the hyperlink. Is this also a setting like _Parent, _Self, or something?

I also want an email link (established from a "Hotspot") that will open a "Message" window within that page. In other words, I do not want that link to open a mail server (such as Outlook Express). I would like it to be a separate “Message Window” within a Pop-up. I would like the visitor to be able to type their message into that Message Window and then when they click "Send" the email is sent to a specified email address and, at the same time, the Pop-up message window closes - and they are still in the same page that they were in when they clicked on the email link.

I know this is all basic, but I'm having some problems making these things work, so all help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Charles

Hi there,
If you don't want the page you are linking from to stay open, use '_self', this is usually the default setting as well. If you want the page to open in a new window, use '_blank'.
I'm really not sure how to do the last one, but I'm sure that someone will have a way of doing this and will let you know. I would guess that you need to use a form and I haven't really used forms in Dreamweaver, but if you designed a form as a simple text box and set the size of the pop up window, that might do the trick.
Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks,

I need to know if I can create a hyperlink to another website from a "Hotspot" on a large graphic.

I have a large graphic on one of my pages and I want to put a hyperlink to another website in a specific area of that graphic.

I created a Hotspot in that location but I can't find out how to attach an external hyperlink to it.

Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?

You must use ASP or PHP for sending messages. It is ordinary form.

Click on the hot spot you want to use to go to the external site by the document window or tag thingy in the bottom left of the document window. When the hot spot is selected, the properties inspector will showcase the link window. Put in the full page address that you want it to open to. Starting with HTTP://. And remember to use your alt tags when creating hot spots. They make it user-friendly. And target it to "self" if you want the page to change to the new link. If you want it to open in a new window choose blank. Ignore the other two choices.
