Ok so i want a forum that will last for a long while and will not shut down all the time and crash. I see that many people use the Vbulletin or something like that, but Ithought that charge alot?

Anyways I like to be able to add my own images and advertisments, but again I need something that will last for a while. I have a free phpbb forum that I got from my webhost. But I do not see many people with it. So I wanted to get some opinions.

Well there are still a lot of good forums out there using phpBB. Whether you should go for phpBB or vBulletin would depend on your requirements and preferences. vBulletin is a nice feature packed software for large communities whereas phpBB can also handle large communities but it doesn't have that many features.

I agree with the last post - look at your actual needs first before choosing which script to use. You should be prepared to pay for a commercial script if it fits the bill.

phpbb is good and you can always add to it.

vb is the best. i think.

If the price is a problem, start out with PHPBB. You could always convert in the future. Vbulletin is pretty sweat though. PHPBB has a lot of mods that could get you close, but updating the application could be pretty harsh with a lot of mods.

I would go with SMF, It's free and is much better than phpbb.

Well I am not sure if price is the problem. See if I have visitors coming to my site, then its worth the money. I noticed that you can lease the vbulletin, which I am not sure if that means you can still use all of there features or not.

But here is my main problem. See i want to be able to add my affiliate banners in some of my messages, and I can't figure it out in phpbb so I figured that maybe a different forum might be better.

Oh yea my like future competition site uses a user that is called a google bot and it lists the google adsense stuff on each forum. I think thats cool and I would like to do that too

They have google ads though. You can remove them by paying 5 dollars.

Register a board and see if it suits you.

I have seen SMF but not used it. It looks very light and consequently fast. Care to elaborate on how it is "better" than phpbb for this phpbb user?

I would like to add like banners to my phpbb and it seems like vbulletin

I can do it along the top, but I would like to add banners along the side or a navagation panel.

SMF from experience is very easy to use and is picking up a lot of followers, meaning lots of new Mods will be available shortly
