New to the E-commerce world and developing a site...through myself and outsourcing the programming.

What company is good for merchant accounts...PSI Gate, Verisign...?

We will be hosting off site...what are some things to remember when hosting an online store?

We were going to pay for Seach engine submission..but I am finding out there are free ways of doing it...could you outline them?

Thank you for your help.

With hosting, cheaper hosts often do not provide as good support, but prices have dropped significantly in the past couple years so you should still be able to find a great host at under $20 a month (depending on how much bandwidth and space you need). Some more expensive hosts can have bad support also so the best thing to do is just do some research or send them an email and see how long it takes for a reply.

You really should not need to pay anyone to submit your sites to the search engines. It's so easy to do it yourself. Some search engines only offer pay per inclusion though (especially if you want in fast). If you have patience, Inktomi will eventually find you and list your for free.

For a list, go here: http://www.manual-submit.com/
Click on the search engine logos for the add url pages.
Or try here: http://www.searchengines.com/URLsubmission.html

In regards to merchant accounts, I have used 2checkout.com, but don't know a lot about the rest.

Thanks for joining our forums

Thank you for your help...Tim

Another question...I am looking into SSL certificates. Is GeoTrust just as good as the more expensive ones? Verisign offers a SSL certificate but it is over $500.00 is it worth it?

Have you ever heard of PSI Gate...they provide Merchant account services? (any good?)

Don't know about PSI gate but I have recently purchased a Geotrust SSL cert. It seems a lot of people are taking advantage of it due to the low price and its gaining recognition. I dont see a problem in using it.

We have used Geotrust certs on our servers for quite some time and offer them as shared SSL certs on all servers. We have had zero problems and the price is great on them. We moved from Thawte to them is how much we liked the company. Not all cheaper hosts offer sub-standard support and not all pricier hosts offer good support. Ask questions to your potential host and get a feel for them is my best advice.
