I'm a graphic designer who wants to do a website for another business I have. There is so much info out there I am seriously confused on what the best thing is for me.

1. Which software should I use? (I have Photoshop CS, Illustrator 10, GoLive 6 and Yahoo SiteBuilder).
2. Do I have to learn HTML?
3. Can I design everything in Illustrator and "publish" it somewhere else?
4. Can anyone recommend a training or good tutorial website? (I do not want to become a major web designer, my work is really print).

THANKS! It's appreciated!

With software You mentioned it's possible to make good web sites.
But, the point is that You must know to use this tools.

Learn HTML, learn CSS, learn graphic tools.

Use Your imagination, take a peek at sites that You like and see what other people made and try to realize how they made and solve particular problem.

For good tutorial site for learning standards in web design I recommend :http://www.w3schools.com/

For other software just google something like Photoshop tutorial and You'll find a bunch of tutz...
Learn and practice and don't give up!

All those except Yahoo Sitebuilder are good tools.

Yes, you should. And learn some CSS too.

Illustrator is great for your print work, it is not for web publishing. You can do your grahics, but you still have to put them into a web page. This is what GoLive is for.

You've already been given one very good one.
Keep in mind that web design is NOT the same as print design. Too many designers make that mistake.

LadynrRed...

You're so concise and You were explain everything that wilmaflintstones asked..

I like very much Your last sentence in a post:

"...Keep in mind that web design is NOT the same as print design. Too many designers make that mistake..."

IMHO the most important thing about web design is an IDEA...
Of course, beside using tools for that (Photoshop,Dreamweaver, Notepad, CSS...)

Your posts are always very helpful, even for no newbies..congratulations!!

Thanks MoonDawg
I try to keep it as clear as possible.
As for the print vs. web, I've had to fight that battle with marketing people who seem to think that every PRINT idea they have can just go on the web.... NOT. It can be tough to make them understand the differences.

Mamaw-- EXCELLENT point !!

Keep on, LadynRed, keep on!

The point is in approach.

When You design for print, You must bear one thing in mind: the Look!

But designing for web is slightly different. You must care about nice looking , usability, functionality, speed, user friendly, interacting, etc...etc..

Once again, Your posts are "little masterpieces", so my advice for every newbie on this Forum : read posts from LadynRed (among many other respected members)

sorry for my English
